Fugitive Identified in International Drug Trafficking Probe

Law enforcement authorities in Ernakulam Rural have identified a Thamarassery native as a central figure in a sophisticated hybrid cannabis distribution network. District Police Chief K.S. Sudarshan revealed on Wednesday that the suspect, currently based in Thailand, is facilitating the transit of high-potency drugs into Kerala. This development follows the arrest of 11 individuals and the seizure of 18 kilograms of hybrid cannabis from a couple in Vypeen during a June 24 raid in Perumbavoor.

Connection to 2021 Ramanattukara Fatalities

The suspect has been evading authorities since June 21, 2021, following a violent sequence of events in Kozhikode. He is allegedly linked to a botched gold heist where a five-member gang from Cherpulassery died when their SUV crashed into a lorry. Investigation into that incident revealed a criminal conspiracy to ambush and rob gold smugglers departing from the Calicut International Airport. Police now hold evidence that this same individual has transitioned into trafficking hybrid narcotics from Southeast Asia.

Updates on Kidnapping and Organ Trade Investigations

The District Police Chief also provided status reports on other high-profile regional cases:

• Missing Minor Traced: A 12-year-old girl reported missing from Karumaloor was located at the Pune railway station. A youth is in custody on kidnapping charges. The victim is returning to Kochi, with formal statements pending her recovery from trauma.
• Organ Trafficking SIT: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Sudarshan is currently assuming control of an organ trafficking probe previously managed by the Crime Branch. The final composition of this specialized unit is being finalized.
