Assessment of Agricultural Disturbance

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation conducted an on-site evaluation of the agricultural crisis in Hassan district this Wednesday. Led by former cabinet ministers Araga Jnanendra and V. Sunil Kumar, the group navigated through farm fields near Mosale Hosahalli to observe the fallout of a prolonged dry spell. Growers reported a double blow to their livelihoods: stunted maize production due to extreme water scarcity and a simultaneous outbreak of downy mildew, a destructive fungal infection that has ravaged the remaining stalks.

Allegations of Administrative Negligence

During a press briefing, Araga Jnanendra criticized the current State government for its perceived indifference toward the farming community. He pointed out that agriculturalists have reached a point where recovering even their initial input costs is impossible, yet the Department of Agriculture has failed to mobilize support. Jnanendra alleged that the Congress party leadership is currently preoccupied with internal Cabinet expansion rather than addressing the rural economic emergency. According to the BJP leader, the administration has failed to dedicate the resources needed to mitigate the impact of the crop failures.

Scope of the Delegation

The fact-finding mission extended its reach to several villages within both Holenarasipur and Hassan taluks. The delegation represented a significant cross-section of the party's regional leadership, including:

  • S.N. Channabasappa, Shivamogga MLA
  • Cement Manju, Sakaleshpur MLA
  • H.K. Suresh, Belur MLA
  • Siddesh Nagendra, district BJP president

These representatives focused their attention on the specific grievances of maize growers who face a total loss of investment and labor for the current season.
