Tamil Nadu Forms Committee to Address Guideline Value Anomalies

The Tamil Nadu government has established a committee to study anomalies in property guideline values, announced D. Lokesh Tamilselvan, Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration. Speaking on Friday, August 14, 2026, in Coimbatore, the Minister stated that while there is no current request to increase these values, discrepancies exist. The government will act upon the committee's findings after the conclusion of the Assembly session.

The Minister also participated in a workshop in Coimbatore focused on 'presence-less' registration, a system set to become mandatory statewide from August 17. This new process will allow for immediate registration of first-time sales of plots or apartment units from the promoter or seller's office, eliminating the need to visit a sub-registrar office. The Minister highlighted that this system aims to increase transparency and reduce reliance on middlemen. Workshops on this new registration method have also been conducted in Chennai, Madurai, and Tiruchi.

Additionally, 24x7 call centers have been established to assist the public with the registration process. Minister for Backward Classes V. Sampathkumar noted that 'presence-less' registration is part of the government's initiative to deliver schemes and welfare measures directly to citizens. Inspector General of Registration G. K. Arun Sundar Thayalan explained that the new system allows document presentation from any location during the sale execution phase.
