Our mission

Project Chintan is an independent, digital-first news publication based in India. We report on politics, business, technology, science, health and culture for readers who want context as well as headlines. Our purpose is to publish accurate, useful and fair journalism that helps readers think beyond the headlines.

Editorial principles

• Accuracy comes before speed. We would rather publish later than publish wrong.
• Every claim of consequence is attributed to an identifiable source.
• We report fairly on all sides of a contested issue and give subjects a chance to respond.
• We write in plain language and avoid sensational framing.
• We correct openly when we get something wrong.

Accuracy and fact-checking

Every story is reviewed by a human editor before publication. Editors check names, titles, dates, figures, quotations and the chain of sourcing behind each claim. Numbers are traced back to the originating document or dataset wherever one exists. Where a fact cannot be verified to our satisfaction, we either leave it out or state plainly what remains unconfirmed.

Sourcing and attribution

We prefer primary sources: official records, filings, judgments, datasets, and first-hand interviews. When our reporting builds on work first published by another news organisation, we credit that organisation by name in the body of the article. We grant anonymity to a source only when the information is of clear public interest, cannot reasonably be obtained on the record, and the source faces a genuine risk. Confidential-source agreements are honoured without exception.

Use of AI-assisted tools

Project Chintan uses software tools, including automated systems, to support newsroom workflows such as monitoring news feeds, organising research, formatting and routine copy checks. Editorial judgement, verification and final approval always rest with a human editor. No story is published without human review. We do not use these tools to fabricate quotations, sources, images or events. Where an automated tool has materially shaped a piece of published content beyond routine production support, we disclose that in the article itself.

Corrections

When we publish an error of fact, we fix it promptly and add a dated correction note at the foot of the article explaining what changed. Minor typographical fixes that do not alter meaning are made silently. Substantive rewrites are labelled as updates with a timestamp. Opinion and analysis labelling

News reporting and opinion are kept separate. Commentary, editorials and columns are published under an Opinion label, and interpretive pieces are marked as Analysis. Opinion pieces carry the author's name and reflect the author's views, not an institutional position, unless explicitly published as an editorial.

Editorial independence

Project Chintan accepts no payment, gift, travel, or other benefit in exchange for editorial coverage. No advertiser, sponsor, partner, investor or political organisation has any say over what we cover or how we cover it. Contributors disclose relevant financial, personal or political interests to their editor, and editors reassign coverage where a conflict exists.

Sponsored content and advertising

Advertising supports our journalism and is kept visibly separate from editorial content. Any sponsored, branded or partner-funded material is clearly labelled as such at the top of the item and is not produced by the newsroom. Programmatic advertisements displayed on the site are served by third-party networks and their presence implies no endorsement. We do not accept advertising that is deceptive, or that we cannot clearly identify as advertising.

Prohibited content

We do not publish:

• Content that is knowingly false, fabricated or materially misleading.
• Hate speech, or content that incites violence, harassment or discrimination.
• Plagiarised or unattributed work.
• Content that violates a person's privacy without an overriding public interest.
• Malicious, deceptive or purely promotional material presented as journalism.
• Content that is unlawful under applicable Indian law, including contempt and sub judice restrictions.

Reader contributions

We welcome news tips, documents, letters and opinion submissions. Contributions may be edited for length, clarity, accuracy and legal risk, and publication is at the editor's discretion. Unsolicited material is not guaranteed a response. By submitting material you confirm it is your own work or that you hold the rights to share it. Transparency

Project Chintan is an independently owned digital publication operating from India. Our funding comes from advertising and reader support. Articles carry a byline, a publication date and, where the story has been revised, an update timestamp. Our editorial standards, ethics commitments and corrections practice are published openly on this site and reviewed periodically.

Copyright and intellectual property

All original text, images, graphics and design on projectchintan.com are the property of Project Chintan unless otherwise credited, and may not be reproduced, republished or redistributed without written permission. Short quotations with clear attribution and a link to the original article are permitted. If you believe material on this site infringes your copyright, write to Hello@ProjectChintan.com with the URL, a description of the work and proof of ownership, and we will review the claim promptly.

Updates, unpublishing and removals

Published journalism forms part of the public record, so we rarely remove articles. We will consider a removal or anonymisation request where continued publication poses a demonstrable risk to a person's safety, where the material is legally required to be withdrawn, or where a factual error cannot be remedied by correction. Requests are reviewed by an editor and, where a change is made, the article carries a note explaining that it was updated. This policy itself may be revised from time to time; the effective date above records the current version.
