Strategic Infrastructure Push: Minister Defines Bhogapuram Airport as Global Trade Hub
State Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy detailed a multi-billion rupee investment plan centered on the new Bhogapuram airport. The facility aims to revitalize North Andhra through expanded cargo capabilities and specialized industrial clusters.
Strategic Launch for Regional Growth
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit on August 1 to officiate the opening of the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport. During this visit, the Prime Minister will either inaugurate or initiate development programs valued at ₹17,912 crore. Minister for State Information and Housing, Kolusu Parthasarathy, announced these plans at the Visakha Press Club, positioning the facility as the 'Gateway of Global Andhra.' This greenfield project is designed to stimulate industrial expansion and tourism across the northern districts of the state.
Design and Logistics Capacity
The airport features a unique architectural design inspired by a flying fish, a choice intended to honor local cultural heritage while adhering to environmental standards. Beyond passenger transit, the facility represents a significant logistics shift for the region:
- Cargo infrastructure capable of managing 25,000 metric tonnes.
- Dedicated export facilities to link local industry with international markets.
- Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) zones for aircraft.
Long-term Industrial and Educational Integration
The government intends to surround the airport with a comprehensive ecosystem designed to sustain economic activity and local employment. Plans include a specialized Aviation University and a Skill Development Centre to prepare the youth for technical roles within the sector. Furthermore, an 'Edu City' and an aviation hub for manufacturing will be established to diversify the region’s economic base. While outlining these initiatives, Minister Parthasarathy noted that the previous YSRCP administration had failed to adequately manage development projects in the area, leading to current efforts to accelerate progress.
