Discovery of the Body Near Local School
Law enforcement officials in Sivaganga district recovered the body of a 70-year-old woman on Sunday after she was found dead near a canal adjacent to a government school. The victim, identified as M. Poochiyammal, resided in Vadakkan Valavu, Soorakkudi. Authorities shifted the remains to the Singampunari Government Hospital for medical examination following the discovery.
Fatal Robbery During Transit
Preliminary findings from the S.V. Mangalam police point to a violent robbery as the primary motive. Investigators state that Poochiyammal was wearing approximately 10 sovereigns of gold jewelry at the time of her disappearance, all of which was missing when her body was located. The attack occurred after she left her residence on Saturday evening, informing her husband she intended to visit a relative nearby.
Search and Recovery Timeline
The disappearance triggered a search by family members when the elderly woman failed to return home. While Poochiyammal’s children reside in Chennai, she lived locally with her husband. The search concluded tragically the following day when her location was noted near the Singampunari canal. Police are currently working to identify the suspects involved in the targeted theft and killing.
