Technical Overhaul Targeted for National Testing Agency

In a major shift aimed at restoring the integrity of India’s competitive testing framework, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the formation of a high-powered task force on July 26, 2026. The committee, chaired by Infosys co-founder and digital infrastructure architect Nandan Nilekani, carries a mandate to overhaul the National Testing Agency (NTA). The Prime Minister emphasized that the primary objective is to forge a reliable and transparent system by maximizing the integration of modern technology.

The panel brings together veterans from space research, internal security, and academia to address systemic vulnerabilities. Key members include:

• S. Somnath, former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
• Tapan Deka, former Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
• V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT-Madras.
• Anita Karwal, former Education Secretary.
• Amrit Lal Meena, a specialist in logistics.

Legislative and Judicial Response to Paper Leaks

Prime Minister Modi shared these updates via Instagram, noting that individuals involved in compromising student futures are currently incarcerated. The government is pursuing a multi-pronged strategy to deter future malpractice, which includes:

• Establishing fast-track courts to expedite cases related to academic fraud.
• Drafting new, stringent legislation for Parliamentary approval to penalize exam tampering.
• Implementing reforms based on the Nilekani task force's upcoming report to secure future exam cycles.

The announcement follows a period of intense political pressure. The decision arrived just one day after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from his position as Union Education Minister and shortly after the Cockroach Janta Party concluded its demonstrations at Jantar Mantar.
