Comprehensive Logistics for the 32-km Trek

Municipal authorities in Visakhapatnam are finalizing infrastructure for the upcoming Giri Pradakshina pilgrimage on July 28, 2026. An estimated 500,000 to 600,000 devotees will participate in the circumambulation of Simhachalam hill. While the trekking influx begins at Tholi Pavancha in the early morning hours, the ceremonial chariot of Lord Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy will officially start its journey at 2:00 p.m. that afternoon.

Sanitation and Environmental Mandates

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has instituted a strict plastic-free policy for the event. The administration directed all non-governmental organizations and resident associations to utilize eco-friendly materials when distributing water or prasadams. To maintain hygiene across the route, 3,033 sanitation personnel are being deployed, including 1,597 temporary hires to assist the regular workforce. A robust waste management fleet featuring 98 vehicles—ranging from e-autos to JCBs—will facilitate continuous garbage removal.

Utilities and Public Amenities

Ensuring access to clean water and sanitation remains a priority for the Water Supply Department, which is establishing 114 distribution points. The logistics plan includes 16,390 large-capacity drinking water cans and 38 tankers dedicated to utility needs. For public convenience, 727 toilets are available, consisting of 137 permanent structures and 590 mobile or temporary units.

Safety, Lighting, and Infrastructure Timeline

The Electrical Department confirmed all lighting installations will be functional by July 25. The 32-km stretch will be illuminated by 3,163 existing streetlights, supplemented by 1,364 temporary 200-watt bulbs and high-intensity LED floodlights at jumbo towers. The East Zone sector, running from Adavivaram to the YSR Statue, accounts for the highest concentration of these safety lights. Integrated CCTV surveillance and medical stations will monitor the route to manage the dense crowds and respond to emergencies throughout the ritual cycle.
