Tamil Nadu CM to Propose Lok Sabha Seat Stability, Back Women's Quota

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay is preparing to introduce resolutions concerning the delimitation of constituencies and women's reservation in the Lok Sabha. One proposed resolution aims to maintain the current strength of the Lok Sabha at 543 seats, urging the central government to preserve a Lok Sabha to Rajya Sabha ratio of 2.2:1.

The resolution also calls for the swift implementation of a 33% reservation for women within the existing 543 Lok Sabha seats. This move comes in the context of the central government's census and delimitation processes, which are expected to occur after a 50-year hiatus. The state government intends to argue that any delimitation based on a census after 1971 could disadvantage southern states like Tamil Nadu, which have successfully implemented population control measures.

Additionally, the Tamil Nadu assembly recently passed two resolutions opposing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Chief Minister Vijay stated that the examination has eroded student confidence and should be abolished, citing concerns of social justice and states' rights.
