Mass Devotion Marks Conclusion of Sakambari Utsavams at Indrakeeladri
The three-day religious festival at Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam ended with elaborate Vedic rituals on Guru Purnima. Approximately 250,000 pilgrims gathered to witness the goddess in her Sakambari Devi avatar.
Final Rituals and Vedic Observances
The Sakambari Utsavams reached its finale on Wednesday at the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam. Marking the conclusion of the three-day event on Guru Purnima, temple priests performed the Maha Poornahuti, alongside Kalasodvasana, Marjanam, and Prokshanam. These ceremonies were conducted under the supervision of temple Sthanacharya V. Shivaprasad Sharma and the Vedic Committee scholars.
The Sakambari Avatar and Temple Aesthetics
Goddess Sri Kanaka Durga appeared to devotees in the Sakambari Devi form, an avatar representing the provider of nourishment. The sanctum and surrounding sub-shrines were transformed using 45 tonnes of donated produce. Donations from farmers and pilgrims included:
- Fresh leafy greens and vegetables
- A variety of seasonal fruits
- Assorted dry fruits
Temple Executive Officer V.K. Seena Naik and Trust Board Chairman Borra Radhakrishna confirmed that these offerings serves a dual purpose. After being used for decoration, the vegetables were incorporated into Kadambam prasadam, which the temple distributed to pilgrims at no cost.
Attendance and Religious Significance
An estimated 2.5 lakh visitors participated in the festivities, with many performing the traditional Giri Pradakshina around Indrakeeladri hill. According to temple leadership, the festival acts as a petition for environmental and agricultural stability. Specific prayers were directed toward achieving consistent rainfall, high crop yields, and the general welfare of the farming community during this period of gratitude to nature.
