Kakarala Samatha, a 60-year-old senior member of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), surrendered to Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) CV Anand on Monday. The former Maoist leader's husband, Patel Sudhakar Reddy, also a Central Committee member, was killed by police on May 24, 2009. Samatha's sister, Kakarala Sunitha, a member of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee, had previously surrendered in August 2025. Their father, Kakarala Satyanaraya, is a veteran of the Telugu film industry, and the family originates from Rajamahendravaram, Andhra Pradesh.
Samatha joined the Maoist movement in 1984, initially with the Radical Students Union. From 2009 to 2015, she was part of the core team of former general secretary Muppala Lakshmana Rao alias Ganapathy.
