Maharashtra Surpasses 85 Million Form Distribution in Massive Voter Roll Overhaul
State election officials have issued nearly 88% of required voter enumeration forms as part of a high-intensity audit. While rural districts lead in data processing, major urban centers like Mumbai and Thane continue to lag in digitization rates.
Data Audit Targets 97.8 Million Voters
Maharashtra's electoral authorities have distributed 85,905,005 enumeration forms, reaching 87.79% of the state's 97,854,049 total electorate. According to a July 26, 2026, report from the Chief Electoral Officer, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) aims to purge duplicates and verify eligibility ahead of upcoming polls. A workforce of over 100,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) is managing the fieldwork, which began on June 30 and concludes on August 8.
Rural Districts Set Pace for Completion
Hingoli district leads the state in logistical reach, achieving a 99.98% distribution rate. Other high-performing regions include:
- Jalgaon: 99.91% distribution
- Buldhana: 99.81% distribution and 82.66% digitization
- Amravati: 99.77% distribution
- Wardha: 99.76% distribution
- Sindhudurg: 99.73% distribution
Regarding technical processing, Ratnagiri holds the record for the highest rate of data entry at 86.03%. Yavatmal followed closely with 85.20%, while Parbhani (81.94%), Gadchiroli (80.84%), and Chandrapur (80.02%) also crossed the 80% digitization threshold.
Urban Centers Behind in Digitization
While rural areas show rapid progress, large metropolitan hubs report significantly lower figures. Mumbai City shows a distribution rate of 72.37% with 38.88% digitization. Mumbai Suburban and Thane have distributed forms to roughly 67% of their electorate, but their digitization rates sit at 28.72% and 27.56% respectively. Pune has reached 70% distribution and 45.04% digitization, while Nashik and Palghar report data entry completion at 57.88% and 39.95%.
