The scale of the situation has attracted independent waste pickers like 26-year-old Sangeetha, who noted that reckless disposal by the public has exacerbated the clutter. Volunteers pointed out that while they maintained NDMC bins, the bins were frequently overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of discarded items. By Friday afternoon, the focus shifted from containment to massive extraction as the council attempted to clear lanes that had been clogged for the better part of the week.
