Protections for Voter Eligibility
Karnataka State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) V. Anbukumar assured citizens on Saturday that the Special Items Revision (SIR) process will not disenfranchise eligible voters. While reviewing Dakshina Kannada's progress at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, the CEO emphasized that anyone omitted from the final electoral list retains a legal avenue to join the registry. To rectify an omission, individuals must submit Form No. 6 along with the required identification documents and formal declarations to the Election Commission of India.
Digitization Progress and ASDD Verification
Election officials are currently managing a massive data entry operation following the distribution of enumeration forms to the public. Anbukumar highlighted the need for efficiency in digitizing these records to facilitate the upcoming draft voter list publication. Data provided by Deputy Commissioner H. V. Darshan revealed the following status in the district:
- Total Voter Count: 18,03,766 registered individuals.
- Digitization Rate: 1,497,139 forms completed, representing 83% of the total.
- ASDD Tracking: Officials identified 65,588 voters categorized as Absent, Shifted, Deceased, or Duplicate.
The CEO instructed polling booth staff to conduct rigorous verification of the ASDD list and mandate that copies be provided to political party agents to ensure transparency.
Constituency Inspection and Support Services
Following the administrative review, Anbukumar inspected the Capitanio School polling booth in the Mangaluru South Assembly constituency to observe the SIR process firsthand. The CEO commended the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for their facility preparations and procedural accuracy. For residents seeking assistance, the district has established 1,098 facility centers. Additionally, voters can address concerns or technical queries via the 1950 toll-free helpline. Officials noted that if citizens cannot meet current SIR deadlines, they should wait for the final list publication to file their Form No. 6 applications.
