Death of a Legislative Stalwart
T.P.M. Sahir, a veteran figure in the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and former Member of the Legislative Assembly, died on Saturday, July 25, 2026. He was 83 years old. Sahir passed away at a private medical facility in Kozhikode where he had been hospitalized for complications related to his age. His final rites, or khabaradakkam, are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. today at the Thoppayil Juma Masjid in Kozhikode.
A Career Spanning Engineering and Governance
Before entering the political arena, Sahir earned a B.Sc. in Engineering, a technical background that informed his subsequent public service. He achieved significant political influence as the representative for the Kozhikode-2 assembly constituency, a region now known as Kozhikode South. Beyond his tenure in the state legislature, Sahir held high-ranking organizational positions within the IUML, shaping the party's direction in the Malabar region for decades.
