Environmentalist Restores 18 Lakes and Plants 1.5 Lakh Trees in Karnataka

Harsha Tej has dedicated himself to revitalizing lakes and planting native trees in Karnataka, addressing the environmental challenges faced by Bengaluru. Witnessing the city's struggle with both water scarcity and monsoon flooding, exacerbated by urban development encroaching on natural water bodies, Tej abandoned his job to focus on ecological restoration.

Through his organization, the BlueDot Foundation, Tej has undertaken comprehensive lake restoration projects. These initiatives involve clearing invasive species, planting indigenous trees, and rebuilding natural habitats. This work has led to the restoration of 18 lakes throughout Karnataka.

In addition to lake revival, the foundation has planted more than 1.5 lakh native trees. These efforts are intended to support biodiversity, improve groundwater recharge, rebuild ecosystems, and mitigate the impact of urban flooding. Tej's mission seeks to re-establish the natural environment he recalls from his youth in Bengaluru.
