Guy Sebastian's Ex-Agent Admits Withholding Funds, Ending Decade-Long Feud

Celebrity manager Titus Day has acknowledged withholding funds from singer-songwriter Guy Sebastian, bringing a nearly decade-long legal conflict to a close. Day, who was incarcerated in 2022 for embezzlement, released a statement on Monday admitting to "a number of regrettable decisions" made while managing Sebastian, an "Australian Idol" alumnus.

The dispute originated nine years ago when Sebastian began to suspect Day of withholding substantial payments. Day stated that he recognized Sebastian had proposed "incredibly fair terms" for settlement early in the disagreement. He expressed that he would have acted differently, admitting he should have been "more reasonable and less emotional" at the outset, which would have facilitated a "swifter and more conciliatory outcome." Day accepted full accountability, describing himself as a "poor steward of Guy’s income" during the later period of his management. He confirmed that some payments intended for Sebastian did not reach the singer, acknowledging a "serious and regrettable impact on Guy and his family" for which he apologized.

Day was initially convicted in 2022 for embezzling nearly $625,000 and received a four-year prison sentence. He was released on appeal after serving seven months. A subsequent criminal trial resulted in his acquittal on four embezzlement charges, with the jury unable to reach a verdict on the remaining 31 counts. Following the prosecution's decision against a third criminal trial, Sebastian initiated civil proceedings against his former manager.

Sebastian's lawyer, Mark Faraday, stated he was pleased with Day's acceptance of responsibility. He noted that Sebastian had always preferred a private resolution and acknowledged the unexpected turns the matter had taken. Sebastian echoed these sentiments, stating he was prepared to drop his claim, forgive, and move forward following Day's apology and accountability.
