CMC Reclaims Footpaths as ‘Walk Free’ Campaign Clears 347 Illegal Structures

The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) executed its latest weekly ‘Walk Free’ enforcement drive on Saturday, July 25, clearing 347 obstructions from roads and walkways. The operation spanned 14 designated stretches, totaling 18.8 kilometers of public space aimed at restoring pedestrian rights.

The Quthbullapur Zone saw the highest concentration of enforcement activity. Officials removed 167 encroachments along a seven-kilometer distance. Specific tallies within this zone include:

• Nizampet and Kompally: 34 removals each
• Medchal: 31 removals
• Jeedimetla: 28 removals
• Chintal: 25 removals
• Dundigal: 15 removals

Expansion Across Serilingampally and Kukatpally

In the Serilingampally Zone, the drive covered an 8.3-kilometer radius, resulting in 123 cleared sites. Madhapur recorded the highest number of removals in this sector with 36, followed by 30 in Miyapur, 27 in Ameenpur, and 15 each in Patancheru and Serilingampally.

The Kukatpally Zone authorities addressed a 3.5-kilometer stretch, dismantling 93 total encroachments. Data from this zone confirms 36 removals in Madhapur, 22 in Moosapet, 20 in Kukatpally, and 15 in Allwyn Colony.

Strategic Objectives of the 'Walk Free' Initiative

CMC Commissioner G. Srijana explained that the campaign prioritizes the creation of safe, accessible, and unobstructed public corridors. By reclaiming these spaces, the civic body intends to facilitate better pedestrian mobility and ease the flow of vehicular traffic throughout corporate limits. The municipal administration maintains that these weekly actions are necessary to ensure footpaths remain available for their intended purpose rather than being utilized by unauthorized commercial or private entities.
