Birmingham Green Party Councillor Charged with Five Assaults

What Happened

Siobhan Harper-Nunes, a Green Party city councillor in Birmingham, has been charged with assaulting five individuals. The alleged victims include a member of the public and four individuals associated with law enforcement: three police officers and one member of police staff.

The 66-year-old councillor was initially arrested on August 6, following a call to police at the junction of Monument Road and Hagley Road around 5:00 PM British Summer Time. She was charged the next day. Police subsequently arrested Harper-Nunes again on Wednesday morning, also on Monument Road, on suspicion of harassment. She was held in custody as investigations progressed.

Harper-Nunes is scheduled to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on September 10 to face the assault charges.

Background

Siobhan Harper-Nunes was elected in May to represent the Ladywood ward on the city council. Previously, she was the Green Party's candidate for West Midlands mayor in the 2024 election.
