MP Proposes 9km Elevated Rail Track for Belagavi Traffic Relief

A proposal for a 9-kilometer elevated railway track on viaducts has been put forward to alleviate traffic congestion in Belagavi city. The plan, presented by Rajya Sabha member M. Nagaraja during the Monsoon Session, aims to bypass existing level crossings and railway overbridges.

According to the proposal, the elevated track could significantly reduce delays at railway gates. This would allow for smoother passage of emergency vehicles such as ambulances, thereby enhancing public safety. The project is also expected to improve the movement of heavy vehicles and bolster overall city connectivity.

The member of Parliament, who is also a retired engineering college professor, suggested that the elevated railway system could support future urban development. It may create new avenues for improving road connectivity and infrastructure without negatively impacting existing commercial zones within the city. Nagaraja cited projects in Kurukshetra and Kanpur as potential models for Belagavi.

Nagaraja emphasized the necessity for Belagavi to implement a scientific, sustainable, and forward-looking solution to its ongoing railway and traffic challenges. He has formally requested that Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna consider this proposal with high priority and grant swift approval.
