Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Dept Reports Success with App-Based Fertilizer Distribution

The Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Department has reported that its app-based distribution system, APAIMS, has successfully provided transparent and timely fertilizer access to farmers across the state during the current kharif season. Director of Agriculture Manazir Jeelani Samoon stated that the system has yielded positive results, aiming to eliminate difficulties farmers face in obtaining these essential agricultural inputs.

What Happened

During the kharif season, the APAIMS App facilitated the purchase of 307,183 tonnes of fertilizers by 1,525,319 farmers. Tenant farmers accounted for 96,694 tonnes of these purchases, representing 31% of the total volume. The department employed an end-to-end tracking mechanism to monitor distribution from manufacturers to farmers, ensuring continuous oversight and transparency.

Background

The department determines fertilizer requirements by analyzing crop-specific needs, considering agricultural scientists' recommendations, historical data on crop cultivation and fertilizer usage over the past three years, and the present crop situation. This systematic approach is central to the app-based distribution strategy.
