Amaravati Illuminated for 80th Independence Day

What Happened

Elaborate arrangements were made in Amaravati for the 80th Independence Day celebrations. On Friday, major government buildings and prominent landmarks across the capital region were illuminated. The five buildings of the Andhra Pradesh Secretariat and the Assembly building featured special lighting designed to reflect the Tricolour. Roads adjacent to these premises and the Central Park were also adorned with colourful lighting.

Historical sites like the rock-cut Undavalli Caves near Vijayawada, Lok Bhavan, and the Prakasam Barrage were lit in orange, white, and green. These decorations enhanced the city's grandeur in anticipation of the celebrations.

Separate flag-hoisting ceremonies were scheduled for Saturday. The Chief Secretary was to unfurl the national flag at the Secretariat's First Block at 7:30 a.m. The Legislative Council Chairman was scheduled to do so at the Legislative Council premises at 7:45 a.m., and the Assembly Speaker at the Assembly premises at 8:00 a.m. The Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court was slated to hoist the flag at the High Court in Nelapadu at 10:00 a.m.
