A recent longitudinal study published in the Indian Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery indicates that Valve-Sparing Root Replacement (VSRR) serves as a durable alternative to artificial valve implantation. Researchers tracked 91 patients at Narayana Health, Bengaluru, between 2009 and 2024, focusing on those with enlarged aortic roots. This specific surgical approach repairs the damaged artery while maintaining the patient's biological valve, circumventing the need for mechanical substitutes.
The data reveals a 10-year survival rate of 86%, with immediate post-operative mortality recorded at just 3.2%. Mid-term results remain robust; after five years, 77% of participants showed no signs of moderate or severe valve leakage.
