TRS President Demands ₹1 Crore Reparations for 2017 Nerella Custodial Torture Victims

Accountability Deficit in Sircilla District

Nine years after eight villagers in Nerella were allegedly subjected to third-degree police torture, TRS President K. Kavitha has reignited calls for justice and financial restitution. During a visit to Rajanna Sircilla on Tuesday, Kavitha met with the grieving family of Gopal, a victim who recently passed away following years of deteriorating health linked to the 2017 incident. The original confrontation arose when locals protested the unchecked movement of illegal sand transport through their community.

Political Failures and Unmet Promises

Kavitha leveled sharp criticism at both state and federal leadership, noting that despite the public outcry that followed the incident, no administrative or legal consequences have been imposed on the offending officers. She specifically targeted the following officials for their perceived inaction:

• Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy: Accused of failing to provide relief despite the Congress party using the incident as a campaign platform.
• Bandi Sanjay Kumar: The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs was asked to clarify the status of the National SC Commission's report on the matter.
• K. T. Rama Rao: The local MLA was cited for failing to secure a final resolution for his constituents.

Demands for Financial Redress

The TRS leader has formally called for the government to provide ₹1 crore in compensation to each of the eight victims, including the dependents of the deceased Gopal. Kavitha asserted that the Congress administration has been in power for 30 months without delivering the relief they touted during the previous Assembly elections. She vowed that her party would continue to support the Nerella victims until the state holds the responsible parties accountable and fulfills these demands for reparations.
