Arrest and Charges in Brampton Case
The Ontario Provincial Police later apprehended 37-year-old Sharnjeet Singh of Brampton in connection with the homicide. On Saturday, July 25, 2026, authorities announced that Singh faces the following charges:
- First-degree murder

Pattern of Violence Within the Diaspora
This incident follows a recent wave of violent crimes involving individuals of Indian descent in Canada. Earlier this month, a similar tragedy unfolded in Edmonton, Alberta. In that case, police arrested 22-year-old Ritish Kumar for the death of his 23-year-old partner, Damanpreet Kaur. Kumar was charged with second-degree murder after investigators determined the victim had been strangled in a case of intimate partner homicide.
