Telangana Seeks Massive Federal Housing Boost and Expanded Rural Work Scope

Push for 11.56 Lakh New Homes Under PMAY-G 2.0

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy urged the central government on July 28, 2026, to allocate 11.56 lakh residences to the state under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) 2.0. Meeting with Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Reddy argued that the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) administration failed to prioritize rural housing. He emphasized that significant federal intervention is now required to fulfill the housing needs of rural families across the state.

Expanding the VB G RAM G Employment Portfolio

Addressing the economic impact of El Nino, the Chief Minister proposed a strategic expansion of the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) program. Reddy recommended integrating ten specific work categories into the mission to stabilize and increase rural earnings. He specifically advocated for the inclusion of infrastructure projects such as:

• Vegetable trellis (pandals) and fodder plot development
• Mulberry gardens and specialized silkworm-rearing sheds
• Farmland rehabilitation and water conservation projects
• Restoration efforts for agricultural land damaged by natural disasters

Integrating Indiramma Housing with Federal Job Schemes

The Telangana government is lobbying the Centre to align the state’s Indiramma housing program with permissible activities under the VB G RAM G scheme. This policy shift would allow beneficiaries to access up to 90 days of guaranteed employment during the construction phase. Reddy asserted that these approvals are necessary to modernize rural infrastructure and provide sustainable livelihood opportunities in Telangana’s villages.
