Supreme Court seeks responses on plea alleging exploitation of courtroom remarks

The Supreme Court has requested responses from the Union government, the Bar Council of India, and the Central Bureau of Investigation regarding a petition that seeks an investigation into alleged fake advocates, fraudulent law degrees, and the activities of individuals associated with the 'Cockroach Janta Party' (CJP).

The plea, filed by advocate Raja Choudhary, also addresses concerns about the commercial exploitation, trademark appropriation, and monetized circulation of statements made during court hearings. The petitioner alleges that portions of proceedings, including a remark made by the Chief Justice of India, were selectively edited and used for commercial purposes, such as memes and political branding, thereby undermining judicial dignity and institutional integrity.

The petition highlights that the CJI-led bench made the remark about 'cockroaches' in the context of fake advocates and the misuse of court processes. The advocate claims a significant increase in the circulation of edited judicial proceedings on social media for financial gain after May 15. The plea seeks action against those involved in the commercial exploitation of courtroom remarks while acknowledging the permissible boundaries of free speech and democratic dissent.
