Rekha to Receive Excellence in Cinema Honor at Melbourne Film Festival

The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) has named veteran Hindi cinema icon Rekha as the recipient of its Excellence in Cinema Award for 2026. This recognition celebrates a career that has defined Indian film for decades, bringing the 71-year-old actor to the Australian festival as its Guest of Honor. To mark the occasion, IFFM will screen Muzaffar Ali’s 1981 masterpiece Umrao Jaan. The screening coincides with the film’s 45th anniversary.

Rekha expressed deep gratitude for the honor, noting that Umrao Jaan remains a permanent fixture in her personal and professional memory. She described the award as a tribute to the writers, musicians, and collaborators who assisted her journey through several high-profile projects.
