Prithviraj Sukumaran Headlines Action Saga Khalifa for August Release

Distribution and Box Office Rivalry

The Malayalam film industry prepares for a major box office confrontation this summer. On August 20, the action-heavy thriller Khalifa makes its theatrical debut. This release places the film in direct competition with Nivin Pauly’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit and I’m Game, which features Dulquer Salman. The production team, led by Jinu V Abhraham and Suraj Kumar, officially confirmed the date alongside a fresh promotional image shared via Prithviraj Sukumaran’s social media.

Plot Details and Production Scale

Written by Jinu V Abhraham, the narrative centers on Aamir Ali, a gold smuggler portrayed by Prithviraj. The film operates under the tagline "Vengeance will be written in gold" and unfolds its story across two distinct parts. A significant highlight includes Mohanlal’s role as Mambarakkal Ahmed Ali, the grandfather of the protagonist. Visuals from the recent poster depict Ali walking with a security detail against the backdrop of Dubai’s Burj Al Arab, signaling an international scope for the production.

Collaborative History and Musical Reach

Khalifa represents the 11th project for director Vysakh, who previously collaborated with Prithviraj on Pokkiri Raja. Vysakh follows up his 2024 Mammootty-led success, Turbo, with this ambitious thriller. The film's soundtrack has already gained traction:

  • The single 'Asalayavale,' composed by Jakes Bejoy, has surpassed three million views on YouTube.
  • Vocalist Sid Sriram performed the lead track, which was released early in July.

Career Trajectory for Prithviraj Sukumaran

This project serves as a career anchor for Prithviraj following the tepid box office performance of I, Nobody. Beyond this August release, the actor maintains a high-profile schedule, including a role in SS Rajamouli’s upcoming 2027 epic Varanasi, where he joins Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra. For now, the focus remains on Khalifa as it seeks to dominate the regional market during the August holiday window.
