Gulveer Singh Breaks New Ground in Distance Running

Gulveer Singh secured a landmark result for Indian athletics on July 28 by finishing second in the men’s 10,000-meter final. This silver medal represents India’s inaugural podium finish in this specific distance event in Commonwealth Games history. Singh, an Army athlete, maintained a position within the lead group for the duration of the race, eventually finishing behind Australia’s Ky Robinson with a time of 27:49.78.

Weightlifting Records and Boxing Progress

In the women’s 69kg weightlifting category, Harjinder Kaur improved upon her 2022 Birmingham bronze by clinching silver in Glasgow. The lifter from Punjab registered a personal best total of 227kg, consisting of 101kg in the snatch and 126kg in the clean and jerk. During her performance, Kaur broke the Commonwealth Games snatch record twice before finishing second to Canada’s Charlotte Simoneau.

India's overall campaign in Glasgow showed further strength as three national boxers advanced to the semifinal rounds. These victories ensure at least three additional medals for the Indian contingent as the competition progresses.
