Infant Search Halted in South Australia Amidst Speculation

Formal efforts to locate the body of a three-month-old infant, Lewis, have concluded in South Australia's south-east. The infant's mother, 36-year-old Helena Wright, and her 23-month-old daughter, Hazel, were found deceased on July 27 following a suspected murder-suicide incident near Port MacDonnell. Despite extensive aerial, ground, and water searches, Lewis's body has not been recovered.

Superintendent Trent Cox of Limestone Coast police stated that recent dive efforts were unsuccessful due to weather conditions. He described the situation as a "grim reality," indicating the infant is "unlikely now ever to be found." While the formal search has ended, police will continue to investigate any future reports of washed-up materials.

Superintendent Cox also addressed the significant online speculation surrounding the case, urging the community to cease "rubbish" chatter. He emphasized the distress this speculation causes to the family of the deceased and highlighted that much of the shared information is unfounded. He stated police have a duty to provide only factual information to the coroner.

Separately, SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens confirmed that the police force is preparing a comprehensive report for the coroner. He indicated that necessary changes would be implemented if any issues were identified, without pre-empting the coroner's findings.
