Police Officer Remanded After DVAC Sting in Tirupathur Bribery Case

Anti-Corruption Operation Highlights Police Extortion
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) carried out a targeted sting operation on Monday, resulting in the arrest of a Special Sub-Inspector in Tirupathur district. Ramakrishnan, the officer in charge of the Alangayam Police Station, now faces legal proceedings after being caught red-handed accepting illicit funds from a member of the public.
The Investigation and Trap
The case originated from a traffic incident involving Manjunathan, a resident of Ambur. After a road accident involving his four-wheeled vehicle, the complainant sought the release of his car and administrative processing for station bail. According to investigators, Ramakrishnan demanded a payment of ₹5,000 to facilitate the mandatory vehicle inspection by the Motor Vehicle Inspector and to grant bail.
Rather than complying with the demand, Manjunathan alerted the DVAC’s Tirupathur detachment. Officials coordinated a sting operation for July 28, 2026, catching the officer as he received the bribe. The primary actions taken by the authorities include:
- Registration of a formal case under anti-corruption statutes.
- Deployment of a trap team to monitor the transaction.
- Immediate arrest of the suspect following the exchange of marked bills.
