Interstate Narcotics Seizure Near Local Landmark

Perundurai police dismantled a drug trafficking operation on Monday, July 27, 2026, after intercepting a vehicle transporting illegal substances. During a targeted inspection near the Kottai Muniyappan Temple, located by the Perundurai bus stand, officers stopped a car traveling from Coimbatore. A search of the vehicle revealed 12 kilograms of ganja hidden inside a suitcase. Authorities estimate the street value of the confiscated drugs at approximately ₹6 lakh.

Sub-Inspector Dinesh Kumar led the police unit that executed the arrests. The team detained three individuals found inside the vehicle: Gopal (42) from Odapallam in Erode, Deepak (20) of Nathakadaiyur in Tiruppur, and Nilathiri Nayak (26), a resident of Odisha. Early findings from the investigation suggest the contraband originated in Odisha and was destined for distribution networks across the Erode district.

Suspect Profiles and Ongoing Manhunt

Detailed background checks revealed that one of the suspects, Gopal, has an extensive history of criminal activity, with several cases already registered against him at multiple stations throughout the district. While three suspects are currently in custody, police are actively pursuing a fourth individual.

  • Total Seized: 12 kg of cannabis.
  • Estimated Value: ₹6,00,000.
  • Wanted Suspect: Abhay Kumar of Odisha remains at large.

The Perundurai police have formally charged the three individuals and seized the vehicle used in the transport. Investigators are now tracing the supply chain to identify further links between Odisha-based suppliers and local distributors in Tamil Nadu.
