Safe Superintelligence (SSI), the lab established by former OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever, has emerged from a two-year period of quiet development to announce a deep-tier partnership with Nvidia. This agreement secures SSI's access to the Vera Rubin GPU platform, a move intended to increase the startup's computational capacity by an order of magnitude. According to insiders, Nvidia’s financial commitment involves several billion dollars, reinforcing its existing position as an investor.
Sutskever, a primary architect of the AlexNet breakthrough that initially validated deep learning on GPUs, stated that SSI has reached research milestones that now demand industrial-grade infrastructure. Unlike competitors focused on rapid consumer product cycles, SSI maintains a narrow focus on a "straight shot" toward safe, aligned superintelligence without the distraction of immediate revenue streams.
