Medical Complications and Death of High-Profile Inmate

Sudhakar, a 47-year-old resident of Anna Nagar with a long-standing criminal history, died in the early hours of Wednesday. The deceased was being treated at the specialized prisoners’ ward of the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital at the time of his passing. According to authorities, Sudhakar was diagnosed with jaundice during his incarceration at Puzhal Central Prison, a condition that necessitated his transfer to the medical college for intensive care.

Extensive Criminal Record and July Arrest

Law enforcement officials identified Sudhakar as a repeat offender with a dossier containing 37 separate criminal cases. His record was headlined by two murder charges and six other pending legal matters. Before his final arrest, the judiciary had issued a non-bailable warrant against him for failing to attend court proceedings. The timeline of his recent custody includes the following events:

  • July 13: The Greater Chennai Police’s Anti-Gangster Squad located Sudhakar in a hideout at Parivakkam, near Poonamallee.
  • Apprehension: Officers arrested him at gunpoint following a specific tip-off regarding his location.
  • Incarceration: Following his arrest, he was remanded in judicial custody and held at Puzhal Central Prison until his health deteriorated.

Ongoing Legal Status

Police confirm that legal formalities surrounding the inmate's death are currently in progress. Sudhakar had been on the run for a significant period before the Anti-Gangster Squad ended his evasion this past July. Medical staff at the Stanley facility noted that despite efforts to treat his worsening jaundice, he succumbed to the illness on Wednesday morning.
