Naidu Sets Accelerated Timeline for ₹51,000 Crore Amaravati Infrastructure Push

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu issued a stern directive to state officials and private contractors on Tuesday, demanding a rapid acceleration of construction activities within the Amaravati capital region. During a high-level review at the Secretariat, Naidu emphasized that while speed is essential, the structural integrity and quality of the infrastructure must not be sacrificed to meet deadlines.

Operational Targets and Financial Oversight

The Chief Minister specifically reviewed the status of 95 active projects, representing a total investment of ₹50,999 crore. To maintain project momentum, he established a strict performance benchmark, ordering agencies to achieve at least 7.92% progress every month. Naidu addressed potential bottlenecks by assuring stakeholders that the government is securing the necessary funding to prevent liquidity issues from stalling the work.

Key logistical directives issued during the session included:

• Strict adherence to project timelines through enhanced coordination between departments.
• Rapid resolution of hurdles involving land acquisition, design approvals, and bureaucratic clearances.
• Consistent personal monitoring of progress by the Chief Minister himself.

A Regional Vision for Urban Development

Naidu redefined the scope of the project, stating that Amaravati must be developed as a cohesive urban corridor integrated with Vijayawada and Guntur, rather than a fragmented collection of 29 villages. This broader vision involves not only hard infrastructure and roads but also a significant expansion of green cover to ensure the capital meets sustainable urban development standards.

The review meeting included participation from Minister P. Narayana, Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad, and various heads of contracting firms. Naidu framed the construction of the capital as a rare opportunity for these agencies, urging them to demonstrate efficiency as the pace of construction begins to recover from previous lows.
