Mysuru Trekkers Conquer 14,100-ft Hampta Pass Amid Harsh Weather

A team of trekkers hailing from Mysuru has successfully completed a demanding high-altitude trek, crossing the 14,100-foot Hampta Pass located in the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas. The group returned to Mysuru recently following their expedition in Himachal Pradesh, which presented them with steep ascents, rough trails, and unpredictable weather, alongside striking views of the Himalayan scenery.

What Happened

The expedition, led by experienced adventurer D.S.D. Solanki, involved senior professionals and students. The journey began on July 16 with a flight to New Delhi, followed by travel to Pathlikuhal near Manali. The team spent a day acclimatizing in Chetti, a village known for its apple orchards, and experienced a zipline ride in Naggar. The trek commenced on July 19 from Jobra, at an altitude of approximately 9,800 feet, under the guidance of tour leader Amarchand Thakur and his crew. The initial days involved traversing forests, streams, and meadows, reaching campsites like Chikka and Balu Ka Ghera. The ascent to Hampta Pass on July 21 was particularly challenging, marked by persistent heavy rain, slippery rocky trails, and snow patches, with temperatures decreasing significantly. Despite these harsh conditions, the trekkers reached the pass summit by early afternoon. The descent to Shea Goru campsite also presented difficulties due to slush and ice. The trek concluded with a final leg to Chatru, including crossing an icy stream. Following the trek, the group visited Chandratal Lake.
