MP Alleges BJP Responsible for Parliament Disruptions, Cites NEET Protest Response Failure

Lok Sabha Member from Raichur, G. Kumar Naik, alleged on Friday that the 19-day Monsoon Session of Parliament was largely unproductive due to the ruling BJP's non-cooperation and the inaction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Speaking at a press conference in Yadgir, Mr. Naik stated that BJP leaders are wrongly attributing parliamentary disruptions to opposition parties like the Congress, Samajwadi Party, and Trinamool Congress.

Mr. Naik asserted that the opposition had called for a statement from the Union Home Minister regarding police actions against students protesting the NEET examination in Delhi. He described the students' treatment as involving lathi charges, water cannons, tear gas, and pellet guns, witnessing the events firsthand. The MP claimed that despite repeated demands, the Home Minister did not provide an explanation in Parliament. He criticized the government's handling of the issue, noting the brief session on the final day where the Speaker adjourned proceedings shortly after the Home Minister and Prime Minister arrived, with no statements made on the student protest response.

The Raichur MP also contended that the session did not offer sufficient opportunities to debate issues impacting citizens, entrepreneurs, farmers, and workers, along with concerns like digital payment security and mining. He accused the BJP of preventing Parliament from serving as a forum for these discussions.

Additionally, Mr. Naik referenced an incident in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, where a 'purification' ritual was reportedly conducted at a public ground shortly after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge addressed a rally there. Mr. Naik described this event as indicative of the "impurity" in the minds of those involved and expressed solidarity with Mr. Kharge, the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, stating that such humiliation is unacceptable.
