Minister Rajmohan Praises The Hindu's Legacy, Links it to Chennai's Rich History

Tamil Nadu Minister for School Education, Tamil Development, and Information and Publicity Rajmohan stated on Friday, August 14, 2026, that The Hindu newspaper's historical significance is comparable to that of Chennai itself. The Minister made these remarks while inaugurating The Hindu's archival photo exhibition, titled 'Madras on Stage', held at the publication's Anna Salai office.

Minister Rajmohan recalled The Hindu as a familiar presence in Chennai households. He shared personal reflections from his college years, including his participation in cultural events and elocution competitions, and his early experiences with a radio channel. He credited L.V. Navaneeth, CEO of The Hindu Group, as his first boss and a significant mentor, stating that Navaneeth fostered an inclusive work environment that he experienced at The Hindu.

Historian and curator Thirupurasundari Sevvel described The Hindu Archives as a substantial collection. She noted that the exhibition highlights the movement of culture within the city, manifesting in public spaces where people converged. The exhibit also touches upon cinema's inextricable link with Chennai's identity, inspired by its depiction in popular culture and iconic landmarks like Chennai Central railway station.
