Police in Chevayur have apprehended Jishnu Jayan, a resident of Mattannur in Kannur, for his alleged involvement in the abduction and extortion of a 21-year-old individual. The victim reported being held captive and threatened with the dissemination of private videos unless a ransom of ₹8 lakh was paid by his family.

The incident reportedly began when the complainant traveled to Bengaluru on July 24, 2026, to visit a friend. While staying at his friend's apartment, he was allegedly lured away by a six-member group under the pretense of meeting another acquaintance. The group is accused of taking him to an isolated area, recording private videos, and subsequently demanding a ransom of ₹8 lakh from his family, with threats of further video circulation if payment was not made. Police sources indicated that the victim was assaulted when his family refused to pay.

The complainant alleges he managed to escape the captors and returned to Kerala to pursue legal action. He filed a complaint with the Chevayur police. Authorities are currently searching for five other individuals, including a woman, believed to be involved in the alleged crime.
