Life Sentences Handed Down in Fatal Yercaud Inheritance Ambush

A protracted legal battle over a fatal property feud concluded on July 28, 2026, as the District Mahila Court sentenced two men to life imprisonment. The ruling addresses the March 23, 2025, ambush of Sakthivel, 35, and his wife Vasuki. The couple, residents of Sonapadi near Yercaud, were traveling by two-wheeler when they were intercepted and killed by a group of relatives.
The Investigation and Trial Outcomes
Following the violence, Yercaud police launched an investigation that identified four primary suspects: C. Rajadurai, 31; T. Ganesan, 33; C. Kanagaraj, 32; and T. Chandran, 32. While all four were initially remanded to prison, the legal process saw the deaths of Kanagaraj and Chandran before a verdict could be reached. The court focused its final judgment on the surviving two defendants.
Final Sentencing and Financial Penalties
The court found Rajadurai and Ganesan guilty of the double murder, citing the underlying land dispute as the primary motive for the targeted attack. In addition to their life sentences, the presiding judge imposed a fine of ₹1,100 on each man. The conviction brings closure to a case that began a year prior when the Yercaud police first registered the charges against the family members.
