A special court dedicated to cases involving the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act has delivered a severe sentence to two men involved in a 2024 fatal assault. Special Court Judge Vaseeth Kumar, presiding on Tuesday, issued double life sentences to 26-year-old Sathish and 24-year-old B. Madhan for the murder of S. Pandiaraj.

Pandiaraj, a 25-year-old construction worker from Shenbagaperi, belonged to a Scheduled Caste. The court ordered that both life sentences will run concurrently. In addition to the imprisonment, the judge imposed a financial penalty of ₹20,000 on each of the convicted individuals.

The violent incident traces back to an ongoing dispute between Sathish and Pandiaraj. On September 23, 2024, the situation escalated when Pandiaraj was working at his family farm alongside his mother. The two assailants approached him under the guise of resolving their differences through a 'peace talk'.

• Location: The attack occurred near a 'kanmai' (irrigation tank) close to the Shenbhagaperi area.
• Method: After luring the victim away from his farm, the pair utilized sharp weapons to hack Pandiaraj to death at the scene.
