CPI(M) Challenges Kerala CM's Statements on MDMA Accused and Other Issues

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has accused Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan of misrepresenting facts concerning an accused in an MDMA case, K.H. Mohammed Hussain. CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan presented photographs suggesting interactions between the Chief Minister and the accused occurred prior to an alleged injury sustained by Hussain during police action.

Mr. Govindan also challenged the Chief Minister's denial of Mr. Hussain's role as his social media coordinator. He pointed to a Facebook post by Mr. Hussain, claiming a five-year association with Satheesan's social media team. The CPI(M) leader further questioned the transfer of the nodal officer for the "Operation Toofan" anti-drugs campaign, suggesting it indicated governmental suspicion.

The CPI(M) also addressed the Chief Minister's remarks about the removal of a news interview video before Assembly elections. Mr. Govindan stated that the Election Commission, then led in the state by Rathan U. Kelkar, made the decision due to the Model Code of Conduct. He alleged that Chief Minister Satheesan was adopting a censorship approach similar to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's by suppressing unfavorable news and opposition posts.

Additionally, Mr. Govindan accused the Chief Minister of advancing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) agenda by not clearly stating that "Vande Mataram" would not be sung in its entirety during Independence Day celebrations. The CPI(M) leader contended that a Chief Secretary's directive on the matter remained in effect and that the Chief Minister's interpretation of the law regarding penalties for not singing the anthem fully was intended to facilitate the Sangh Parivar's objectives.
