Influencer Facing Legal Action Over Inflammatory Video Targeting Dharmendra Pradhan
Police in Madhya Pradesh have booked Yashpal Soni for a social media post containing profanities directed at political leaders. The incident occurred amid heightened tensions regarding national examination leaks and student protests.
Criminal Charges Following Social Media Tirade
Law enforcement officials in the Niwari district of Madhya Pradesh have initiated legal proceedings against Yashpal Soni, a local digital content creator. Soni faced police questioning on July 23 after uploading an Instagram reel that authorities describe as exceptionally hostile. The video, titled Desh dobara gulam ho gaya hai (The nation has been enslaved again), targeted former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Delhi Police.
The investigation follows a formal grievance lodged by BJP block president Kamlesh Chourasiya and other party members. In addition to the criminal charges, the complainants have requested that Soni’s social media presence be restricted. While the video has since been deleted, the police are moving forward under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Legal Framework and Police Position
Authorities have applied two specific sections of the BNS against Soni:
- Section 296(a): Pertaining to obscene acts in public spaces that cause annoyance.
- Section 352: Concerning intentional insults intended to provoke a breach of peace.
Niwari Superintendent of Police Ray Singh Narwaria clarified that the content exceeded the limits of protected speech. Narwaria stated that the influencer used objectionable language that did not qualify as legitimate expression. According to the Superintendent, Soni acknowledged the lapse and offered an apology during his interrogation.
Political Context of the Dispute
The legal friction coincides with a period of significant administrative upheaval. Dharmendra Pradhan exited his ministerial role on July 25, 2026, following a wave of student-led demonstrations in New Delhi and across India. These protests were fueled by allegations of irregularities and paper leaks involving the NEET examinations. Organizations such as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) had been vocal in demanding his resignation. Following his departure, the cabinet seat has been filled by Pralhad Joshi.
