A targeted operation by the Hyderabad City Police’s Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) escalated into a violent confrontation on Sunday afternoon, July 26, 2026. Acting on intelligence regarding a scheduled drug transaction in the Abids area, officers positioned themselves to intercept a suspected peddler. At approximately 2 p.m., the team stopped a vehicle with registration number TG 12 8766. While the driver initially indicated he would comply with police orders, he suddenly accelerated into the officers as they moved toward the car.
Casualties and Ongoing Investigation
The sudden maneuver left two officers injured. Police constable Mahesh Yadav suffered a fractured right leg, while his colleague, Vamshi, sustained minor injuries. Following the escape, investigative findings revealed this was not an isolated incident that day. The suspect, identified as Saif, a resident of Husseini Alam, allegedly used the same vehicle to ram another officer in the Afzalgunj area earlier that morning while avoiding a separate interception.
