Greece's Nair leads qualification effort in Finland for 2028 T20 World Cup

Philip Nair, a Dubai-born cricketer who qualifies for Greece through his mother’s homeland, is part of the Greek squad. He has trained at Legends Academy in Dubai under the guidance of former Zimbabwean captain Graeme Cremer, who has influenced Nair’s development. Nair described his journey from joining the academy at age six to earning his place in Greece’s team after a trial arranged by the Greek cricket federation during a visit to Greece earlier in the year.

Nair’s selection comes amid broader context in which several players have dual eligibility. Moises Henriques, who has played for Australia in the past, captains Portugal in the same tournament, and Billy Konstas—brother of Australian opener Sam Konstas—also features for Greece as part of a multi-country eligibility landscape. Henriques is noted as being born in Madeira and available to play for Portugal after a cooling-off period, while Nair’s background includes birth in Dubai and life in the UAE, with his father being Indian.

Greece’s progress and Nair’s involvement were highlighted after his mentor, Dougie Brown, the former UAE coach and founder of Legends Academy, encouraged him to pursue the Greek opportunity. Nair credited steady improvement over the preceding months and the support he received from Brown and Cremer in his development as key factors in his selection.
