The Anatomy of an Internal Breach

The Enforcement Directorate escalated its probe on Monday into a massive financial fraud at a private firm's digital division in Valappad. Investigators focus on Dhanya Mohan, an 18-year veteran of the company who rose to the position of Assistant General Manager (AGM) and technical lead. Authorities allege she systematically diverted approximately ₹20 crore from her employer's digital coffers.

Tactical Execution and Detection

The illicit scheme began to unravel in April 2024. A routine audit identified a suspicious transfer of ₹80 lakh moved directly from the firm’s digital account to Mohan’s personal holdings. Further investigation suggests the total stolen capital was funneled into five separate bank accounts, including those belonging to the suspect's father and brother. Following a corporate complaint, the Valappad police initiated criminal proceedings.

Evasion and Anti-Money Laundering Inquiry

The suspect initially eluded capture, fleeing her rented residence before officers arrived. Mohan eventually surrendered to authorities in Kollam. Recent findings by local police and the Enforcement Directorate point toward a motive driven by high-stakes lifestyle choices and personal habits. The investigation highlights several critical factors:

  • Property acquisitions registered under the names of various relatives.
  • Funding of a reported addiction to online rummy.
  • The conversion of corporate assets into luxury goods and personal real estate.

The Enforcement Directorate is now scrutinizing the money laundering dimensions of these transactions to recover the misappropriated assets and map the full extent of the financial network utilized by the accused.
