Ex-MP Elsie Lefebvre to Run for Parti Québécois in Berthier

Elsie Lefebvre, a former Member of the National Assembly (MNA) for the Parti Québécois (PQ), will be a candidate for the party in the Berthier riding this fall. Lefebvre previously represented Laurier-Dorion in Montreal from 2004 to 2007 and served as a city councillor for the Villeray district from 2009 to 2017.

Most recently, Lefebvre worked as a political analyst for Québecor media and as a director for La Ruche, a crowdfunding organization. The PQ has indicated that Lefebvre would run in a constituency in the metropolitan region that is favorable to the party.

The current representative for Berthier is Caroline Proulx of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), who has held the seat for eight years and served in various ministerial roles. Proulx announced in March that she would not seek a third term.

Polling projections suggest a strong possibility of a PQ victory in Berthier, with a lead of over 20 points against the CAQ, its closest rival. However, candidates for the CAQ, Quebec Liberal Party, and Quebec Conservative Party have not yet been announced. Québec solidaire's candidate, environmental activist Amélie Drainville, who previously ran in Berthier in 2022, is the only other declared candidate.
