Director Rajkumar Santoshi and actor Sunny Deol, the duo behind 1990s hits including Ghayal and Damini, have revealed the first look at their latest project, Batwara 1947. Released on July 28, 2026, the trailer introduces a narrative centered on the displacement and communal tensions following the Indo-Pak Partition. Produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, the film serves as a milestone collaboration between Santoshi and Khan, who previously worked together on the comedy Andaz Apna Apna.
Plot Mechanics and Cast Details
The storyline follows Deol’s character as he is uprooted from his home, migrating across the newly formed border with his family. Preity G. Zinta portrays his wife, whose plea to escape the escalating violence initiates their journey. The central conflict intensifies when the family discovers an elderly Hindu woman residing in their new mansion. Faced with extremist threats against her life, Deol’s character assumes a protective role, declaring her his mother and engaging in the physical defense of their sanctuary.
