Delhi Fortifies for Independence Day: Enhanced Security, Digital Parking Near Red Fort

The national capital is enhancing its security framework in preparation for the 80th Independence Day on August 15. Delhi Police and other security forces are intensifying surveillance and checks throughout the city, with personnel stationed at strategic locations and along the city's entry and exit routes. Public areas are under heightened observation due to expected large gatherings.

Security arrangements are in place ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address from the Red Fort. In a new initiative, the Delhi Traffic Police has digitally mapped seven designated parking sites near the Red Fort. This collaboration with Google Maps and Mappls aims to facilitate visitor and dignitary access by allowing users to scan QR codes for navigation to specific parking lots. Details of these parking arrangements have been shared on the Delhi Traffic Police's official X account.

Security has also been increased in neighboring districts. Gurugram Police have deployed approximately 4,500 personnel and established 11 major checkpoints. Quick reaction teams (QRTs), along with additional personnel, are present at the celebration venue and other sensitive areas, with strict monitoring of VIP routes, entry/exit points, and parking zones. Hotels, inns, and other establishments will undergo special checks, and visitors will be screened. Rooftop surveillance and anti-sabotage measures are also in effect, with fire tenders and ambulances stationed at venues.

Faridabad Police have set up 11 interstate checkpoints to screen vehicles and individuals. In anticipation of increased attendance, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will begin services at 4 a.m. on August 15, operating at 30-minute frequencies until regular services commence. The DMRC has also provided 1.30 lakh special QR tickets for guests and invitees. Visitors can access the Red Fort via the Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, or Delhi Gate metro stations.
